Twenty volunteers from the U.S. government's Peace Corps program have arrived in Vietnam to teach English in Hanoi and HCMC.

The U.S. embassy in Hanoi announced on Thursday that they would teach in high schools and collaborate with local teachers to improve students' English skills.

Established in 1961, the Peace Corps, an independent agency, has more than 240,000 volunteers.

In 2022 Vietnam became the 143rd country to receive its volunteers when a nine-member team arrived. The next year it sent seven.

The program focuses on English education under an agreement signed in 2020 between the U.S. and Vietnamese governments.

The volunteers will undergo 10 weeks of training to be oriented in Vietnamese culture and its education system from December.
